Hamlet (The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark) is one of William Shakespeare’s famous plays, published in 1603. Claudius seizes the throne and marries Gertrude, the widow of the late King of Denmark, who is his brother and the father of Hamlet. The latter had visions of his deceased father making him understand that he had been assassinated by Claudius, and that he will have to avenge him. To carry out his project, he simulates madness, for love he would have for Ophélie. The play has seen many adaptations for opera, literature, and film. William Shakespeare (1564 – 1616) was an English playwright, poet and actor, considered one of the greatest poets and playwrights in English culture and around the world. His work has been translated into many languages, such as the famous tragedies Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth.
