We love to support this local independent bookstore. They have a good kids area in the basement. We've taken our kids (8&10) to two author talks and our kids loved them! Employees are always very knowledgeable and can guess the book when you have forgotten the title and can't find it. They also do various events that support the local schools throughout the year!!nnBonus– East City books is directly across from the best independent game board game store in DC (Labyrinth)-i typically visit them both!
Nice bookstore! Loved the wall of dog photos and organization of the store. Lots of fun gift items too! Hoping they’ll carry my forthcoming book someday (2026 🎉) because it appeared they put on events with authors and such!
I recently visited East City Bookshop while searching for a particular book, but unfortunately, they didn’t have it in stock. That said, I was still impressed by the overall vibe of the place. Even though I didn’t find what I came for, there’s a lot to love about this independent bookstore.nnThe shop has a warm, inviting atmosphere that’s perfect for people who enjoy wandering and discovering new books. It’s well-lit, with books neatly organized and easy to browse, which is a plus if you’re someone who prefers a more structured shopping experience. The shelves are stocked with a great variety of books, from bestsellers to niche titles, so even though I didn’t find my specific pick, I could tell there’s a lot to explore.nnWhat stood out most to me was the staff’s friendly and knowledgeable attitude. Even though I didn’t interact much with them directly, it’s clear they’re passionate about books and eager to help out if you need a recommendation or have questions. They also seemed to really care about creating a space where readers can take their time and enjoy the experience.nnWhile I didn’t have much luck finding my book, East City Bookshop strikes me as a great spot for casual browsing or picking up a new title on a whim. There’s a really welcoming community vibe, and I can imagine this being a place locals visit regularly. Plus, they often have author events and book clubs, so it’s definitely more than just a place to buy books.nnIn the end, while this wasn’t the right bookstore for my specific need, it’s still a solid choice for anyone who likes supporting local businesses or enjoys exploring a bookstore that’s got heart and character.
Visited this bookstore for the first time last week for a book signing. This bookstore was spacious, bright, and super friendly employees. There are several chairs throughout the space so you can sit and enjoy reading. The kids area is adorable and very entertaining for young kids. I love all the hand-written recommendation notes. They really pull your attention to a new book that you may not have noticed.nThere are several great restaurants nearby as well.
This is my favorite bookstore in DC! I go out of my way to stop by this bookstore whenever I’m in town. They have a smart layout which utilizes their small space well. It makes the bookstore look much bigger and doesn’t feel crowded or cramped. They have a great selection of books and their staff are all so knowledgeable and friendly. Throughout the bookstore you’ll see little green cards on the bookshelves which include the staff’s thoughts on specific books. I think this is such a fun idea and I love to spend half my browsing time just reading what the cards say. There is a certain charm that this bookstore has that none of the other DC bookstores have.
